Dr. Steven A Katz, MD

Steven A Katz, MD is a life-long resident of Montgomery County and grew up in and graduated from Upper Dublin High School. He then went on to Penn State earning a BS in Science in 1982 and an MD from Jefferson Medical College in 1984. After an Internal Medicine Residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Darby he attained lifelong Board Certification in Internal Medicine in 1987.

Since 1986, he has limited his practice to Emergency Medicine, working throughout the Tri-State area. From 1998 to 2005 he Chaired the Emergency Department at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, NJ. After stints as ED Chairman at Central Montgomery Medical Center (now Abington Lansdale Hospital), Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, and Salem Memorial Hospital in Salem, NJ, he now works as an Emergency Physician at Chestnut Hill Hospital and Holy Redeemer Medical Center.

His interest in the medicinal effects and therapeutic uses of marijuana date back many years and with the passage of Act 16 in 2016, Dr. Katz saw an opportunity to translate his knowledge into patient care and improving the quality of patient’s lives.

In addition to his medical career, Dr. Katz has spent many years in philanthropic work for the Angelman Syndrome Foundation, a neurodevelopmental disorder-serving a four-year term as national President from 1999-2003. He has served 2 separate eight-year terms on the Board of Directors. He continues on the ASF Scientific Advisory Committee. In 2007, he was presented with the Harry and Audrey Angelman award for Meritorious Service.

In 2008, he received the EmCare Commitment to Caring award.
